Jean-André BARBOSA

Jean-André BARBOSA Country Chief Representative Central Eastern Europe, AREVA Czech Republic

Mr. Barbosa is an engineering graduate with Highest Honours from the prestigious Ingénieur Civil de l’Ecole des Mines de Paris and the Ingénieur du Corps des Mines. He speaks five languages – Spanish, French, English, Polish and Russian. From the 2014 he acts as the AREVA Director for the Central Eastern Europe. Before his appointment to Regional Director, he worked as Poland Chief Representative.
Prior to joining AREVA, Mr. Barbosa was Regional Managing Director of the global glass manufacturer Verallia (Saint-Gobain Group) in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), managing three plants in Russia and Ukraine and selling in over ten export and domestic markets. Prior to that, Mr. Barbosa worked for the European Commission as a Policy officer on Gas and Electricity markets, in charge in particular of CEE and Balkans issues. He was also part of the EC Negotiating team for Rules in the WTO Doha Round, and before that an EC Senior Team Leader in Trade Defence Instruments procedures. He has also been a Foreign Trade Advisor to the French Ambassador in Ukraine.

Václav DOSTÁL

Václav DOSTÁL   Associate Professor, Department of Energy Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague 

After graduation with Master´s Degree from the Department Thermal and Nuclear Power Systems of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague (2000), he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for doctoral studies in nuclear engineering and graduated in 2004 (Ph.D. Degree). Then he worked in Japan at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Research Laboratory for Nuclear Reactors with prof. Takahashi. His research topic was the fast direct contact boiling lead-bismuth cooled reactor. After his return to the Czech Republic in the summer of 2007, he strengthened an academic staff of the Department of Power Engineering of the FME CTU in Prague. He is also working as the researcher in the Division of Nuclear Safety of the NRI Řež. Since 2009 he has been Vice-President of the CENEN association (Czech Nuclear Education Network), which contributes to enhancement of the quality of the Czech nuclear education. Main focus of his pedagogical activities concerns of the lectures in study program ´Nuclear Power Plants´. His scientific interest includes nuclear reactors thermal hydraulics, boiling crisis, the safety of nuclear power facilities and their design.

Pavel JANÍK

Pavel JANÍK   Managing Director for Westinghouse Czech Republic

Pavel Janik ensures all activities for Westinghouse not only in the Czech Republic, but also in the Slovak Republic and Hungary.
Pavel Janik studied civil engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague. During his studies he participated in several working programs for the students in Germany and United States, he began his career in the company ŠKODA PRAHA and subsequently in ŠKODA POWER, where he held various technical and commercial positions. At that time he was responsible for ŠKODA POWER branch in Mexico, then for a similar project in Sweden. In 2007, Pavel Janik accepted an offer to work in the company ČEZ, where he worked as the Chairman of the Board of ČEZ Bohunice and he also worked for this company as a project manager in the department of Mergers and Acquisitions. Since June 2013, Pavel Janik has been working as a regional head of the American company Westinghouse. In the Czech Republic, he leads a team of ten people; some of them are the technicians working at the Temelin power plant.

Lenka KOVAČOVSKÁ

Lenka KOVAČOVSKÁ   Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade responsible for energy

Lenka Kovačovská studied International Relations at the Faculty of International Relations of the University of Economics in Prague and held a Ph.D. from the same university. She started her professional career in Czech Transmission System Operator, ČEPS, plc. in 2007. She worked as a Senior Specialist of Strategy, and participated at various development projects at national and regional / EU level. She started working for the Ministry of Industry and Trade in March 2013 at the position of Head of Analyses and Forecasts in Energy and later Head of Strategy and International Cooperation in Energy. She is a Director of Department of Strategy and International Cooperation in Energy since October 2014, in November 2015 has been appointed an acting Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade responsible for energy.

Jiří MAREK

Jiří MAREK   JMM consulting

Jiri is the consultant in the field of power industry and is the Head Executive of JMM Consulting, Ltd. – a company focused on advisory services and organization of professional activities. After graduating from the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Technical and Nuclear Physics, he worked in research; he has been working in the power industry field since 1974 (until 1996 in ČEZ). For the last twenty years, he was the advisor of the Minister of Industry and Trade, chairman and vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board of ČEZ, a member of supervisory boards in several energy distribution companies and an advisor of Deputy Ministers of Finance. In these positions, he was dealing with the reorganization of state administration in power industry, the development of state energy policy, the establishment of the State Office for Nuclear Safety and with the preparation of the privatization of Czech power industry. He is occupied by publication activities, mainly in the field of nuclear power industry and has wide experience in organizing of international and specialized professional conferences and meetings. His positions are quoted on TV, radio and in economic periodicals. In 2014 he co-founded a publicly beneficial organization Českomoravská technika (Czech-Moravian Technique), aimed at promoting of the technology and technical erudition where he acts as the Chairman of the Board; and also was elected the President of the Association of Czech Nuclear Veterans.

Jan MLÁDEK

Jan MLÁDEK   Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic

He graduated from the University of Economics in Prague (1983) and passed two-years course in Mathematics and Physics Faculty of Charles University (1989).   He obtained the PhD. degree in the Prognostics Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1990). During the period of 1991-2 he was appointed as the Deputy Federal Minister of Economy and from 1999 to 2001as the Deputy Minister of Finance. In the years 1993-8 he cooperated with the Central European University, Prague/Budapest on the study of the transformation and privatization of the post-communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe; also acted in the civil service - adviser to the Minister of Trade and Industry, member of the Steering Committee for the privatization of banks and representative of the Czech National Bank Governor in the International Monetary Fund. Between June 2002 and December 2005 he was a Member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament; he held the position of the Minister of Agriculture during the years 2005-6. In October 2013 he was elected a Member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, and became the Minister of the Czech Government. He has published many scientific papers at home and abroad. His main fields of interest include systemic changes and macroeconomic regulation, privatization, restructuring and industrial policy.

Ladislav MRAVEC

Ladislav MRAVEC   General Manager, Czech Machinery Cluster

He studied High School for Nuclear Technology, Prague and Czech Technical University, Prague, the Faculty of Nuclear Engineering and the Faculty of Civil Engineering. In 1970´s he was imprisoned for subversion of the Republic and until 1990, when he was judicially rehabilitated, he worked in areas related with archeology, civil engineering and IT projects for big companies in Prague. After 1989 he was posted as a diplomat to the USA, later he was responsible for bilateral diplomacy and took part in short time mission to various countries. At turn of century he acted outside of civil service as a director in three small IT companies and from 2003 he was appointed as a director of a foreign policy department in the Office of the President of the Republic. Afterwards in 2013 he acceded to the Czech Machinery Cluster, which is an association of more than 70 companies operating in mechanical engineering and related businesses. Almost 40 cluster members have formed supply chain for nuclear energy and the same time some of them are members of the Czech Energy Alliance.

Jiří SLOVÁK

Jiří SLOVÁK   Director, Radioactive Waste Repository Authority

He graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Masaryk University in Brno with a master’s degree in basic and deposits geology and, subsequently, a doctorate in geochemistry and deposits geology. From 2008 to 2014 he worked at SURAO as Deputy Director for Development and was responsible for the preparation of the deep geological repository programme and the coordination of research in the field of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management. He has held the position of Managing Director of SURAO since 2014.
He is a member of the IGS-TP (Implementing Geological Disposal Technology Platform) and a member of the Working Group for Dialogue on a Deep Geological Repository. Throughout his entire professional career he has worked in technical and managerial positions, initially in the field of mining geology and the ecology of uranium mining and, since 1997, concerning particularly radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel issues.

Vladimír SLUGEŇ

Vladimír SLUGEŇ   Vice-President of the Management Board of the National Nuclear Fund of the Slovak Republic

Vladimir Slugeň acts as Professor at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, where he earned the highest academic degree Dr.Sc., and where he also acts as Supervisor of the study branch Nuclear Energy. He is the author or co-author of six books, eight university textbooks and almost two hundred scientific or professional works in the field of nuclear energy and materials research (50 scientific articles in the CC, 200 citations in CC). Extensive is his cooperation with practice through consultation, research projects and expert opinions. He is co-author of the “National policy and the national program for management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel in the Slovak Republic”. In 2015 he founded the European Decommissioning Academy; for many years he holds the position of the Chairman of the Slovak Nuclear Society.

Zdeněk ŠÍMA

Zdeněk ŠÍMA   Executive Head, Rosatom Central Europe

Zdenek graduated at Prague School of Economics, major in foreign trade. Since 1983 he has been working at Skodaexport. Foreign experience was gained during his long-tem stay in Pakistan in 1989-92, executing power generation and metallurgy projects. During next years in Skodaexport, he was responsible for numerous projects abroad, mainly in power sector, metallurgy and oil & gas. Since 2009 he has been working for ČEZ, Department of new NPPs construction, being responsible for commercial management of projects. After a short employment at Chladici veze Praha he joined Rosatom, a Russian state-owned conglomerate, in 2012.
At present, in Rosatom Central Europe he is responsible for marketing entity especially for Czech Republic; Rosatom Central Europe manages its branch offices in Slovakia and Hungary.

Radek ŠKODA

Radek ŠKODA   Associate Professor, Department of Energy Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague

Radek Skoda deals with nuclear power; at the Department of Energy Engineering, Czech Technical University (CTU) leads a Group of nuclear fuel, which in several projects focusing on new fuel cladding and burnable absorbers. In this field he has several patents and published number of articles. As a member of an independent advisory commission on energy to Minister of Industry and Trade and as a university lecturer also published scientific and popular articles about the NPP's security and economy.
He cooperates with many universities – as director of the Texas Nuclear Science Center (NSC) in the US he worked on neutronic measurements and calculations, and helped to build cooperation between the US and the Czech Republic in the field of nuclear power; and the new Civil Nuclear Cooperation Center in Prague is a product of it. In cooperation with the University of Massachusetts Lowell in USA organizes Intercontinental Nuclear Institute. He taught or led students at NWU Potchefstroom in South Africa (thorium fuel cycle), Texas A&M in the USA (neutron radiography and collimators), Brno University of Technology, University of West Bohemia, Harbin University (China), World Nuclear University in Oxford, INSTN CEA in Paris, or Dalton Institute in Manchester.

Radek TRTÍLEK

Radek TRTÍLEK   Director, Chemistry of Fuel Cycle and Waste Management Dept., ÚJV Řež (Nuclear Research Institute)

He is graduated at Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Nuclear and Physical Engineering in the field of nuclear engineering. He was working in Temelin Nuclear Power Plant for 13 years, as responsible for waste management (preparation of the operation, commissioning and licensing). Then he was working for the service and engineering company ALLDECO.CZ /AMEC NCR on the position member of the board and executive director for 10 years. Since 2010 he has been working in the UJV Rez company as a director of Fuel Cycle Chemistry and Waste Management Division.
In the field of low and intermediate radwaste management he is involved his whole professional carrier. Among the operational and licensing matters of radwaste management in the NPPs and institutions he was participating e.g. on the draft the national conceptions of the RAW and SNF management in the Czech and Slovak Republics, on the development and licensing of geopolymer matrix, on project management of the Characterisation and removing of historical waste in Richard Repository, on the analyses of disposing possibilities for RAW from new nuclear power plants as well. He also took part on the 5 IAEA technical missions. He lectures on universities and is co-author teaching texts and articles.

Petr ZÁVODSKÝ

Petr ZÁVODSKÝ   Manager of New Nuclear Build Group, ČEZ plc.

Petr Závodský has graduated at University of Transport and Communication, electro-technical faculty. Petr joined CEZ Group in 1994, started at Nuclear Power Plant Temelín during construction of Units 1&2, among others as Manager of Independent Verification and Validation of the Safety Systems Software. In autumn 2006, when CEZ decided to prepare New Nuclear built, Petr was one of the first members of the new team responsible for technical part of market research and Tender documents preparation. In April 2009 he becomes Director of Nuclear Power Plants Construction Department. He is also Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors at Jadrova Energeticka Spolocnost Slovenska, plc. (Slovak Nuclear Power Company) and at ČEZ Bohunice plc. as well as Member the Board of Directors at Škoda Praha, plc.

Jiří ZÝBAL

Jiří ZÝBAL   Reactor Physicist, Dukovany NPP, ČEZ plc.

Jiří Zýbal graduated from the Faculty of Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering in Prague - specialization theory and technology of nuclear reactors. After graduating he joined in 2010 the Dukovany NPP as the operator of the secondary circuit - assistant, where he was two and a half years preparing for the operator position. Upon completion of training and passing all the tests he accepted an offer to move to the Department of reactor physics. There he works since February 2013 as a reactor physicist. He prepares operational documentation and documentation for the fuel loadings. As an operational physicist he leads the physical and energetic start-up.
